Insurance Coverage for Wigs

Most private health insurance policies will cover a percentage of a wig purchase. First call your insurance company and ask about their requirements. Second check the benefits of your insurance. There should be a section relating to ‘covered expenses’ pertaining to prostheses, prosthetic devices or medical durable equipment. Most companies don't spell out exclusions so pay attention to the actual coverage.

Things you will need:

·         For medical related reasons have your physician give you a copy of the specific diagnosis. For example Alopocia alone is not a diagnosis, will need to know what type.

·         Ask your doctor for a prescription for an Extra-cranial Prostheses or Full hair Prostheses (that is, a wig!) to submit to your insurer.

·         Keep a paper trail

o    The copy of your specific diagnosis

o    Your doctor’s prescription

o    Sales receipt for your wig

o    Completed insurance claim form

o    Any correspondence you send to the insurance company

These steps are for reference. Remember to follow the procedures outlined by your insurance company to receive the fullest benefits possible. Most companies cover between 80 to 100%. Individual insurance companies as well as the state insurance board (each state varies) may have other or additional steps to complete.

If you don't have insurance contact your state or county agencies. The county department of social services offers medical assistance in most states for individuals who meet certain income guidelines.

You may have to pay for a wig out of your own pocket –- in this case, save the receipt in case the purchase qualifies as a tax deduction.

Heat Defiant Wig Care and Styling Tips

Styling Tips & Care Instructions for Heat Defiant Wigs, Extensions, and Hairpieces.

CURLING - THE 3 C’s

CURL
• Comb hair free of tangles (We recommend using a detangler for synthetic fibers)
• Take a 1 - 1.5” section of hair (Smaller sections = tighter curl, large section = looser curl).
• Gather hair in curling iron, smooth through to the ends, roll up towards weft.
• Hold for 15-20 seconds, release curl into palm. (We recommend using a SmartHeat curling iron with the heat setting set on synthetic.)

CLIP• Holding curl in one hand, gather up towards base and clip

COOL• Allow curl to cool completely, remove clip. Let curl hang naturally.• Hair can be combed (use fingers or a wide tooth comb for best results).

FLAT IRON
• Take 1-1.5” section, starting at least 2” away from base, slowly smooth flat iron down towards end, keep hair smother with a comb behind the flat iron.
• Continue through ends (2-3 times if needed).
• Allow hair to hang naturally to cool.
(Use your flat iron on the lowest/coolest setting) 

HD Care Instructions
• Gently comb through any tangles using a wide tooth comb.
• Wash with a capful of synthetic Shampoo in cool water.
• Rinse throroughly and shake out any excess water.
• Once rinsed, apply Jon Renau Conditioning Spray
• Either allow to air dry or blow dry (If using a blow dryer we recommend using the lowest heat setting)

Tip: We recommend that ONLY a wide tooth comb is used to style and/or detangle your new.

Heat is a wavy shag with a shake-and-go wearablity and heat defiant flexibility. Can be worn sleek or tousled to create curls. Heat has a lace-front to create a natural looking hairline.

 

Fiery can be worn matchstick straight or softened with curls. The SmartLace cap construction provides total

styling flexibility while appearing like a natural hairline.

Haute is a sleek chin length bob which can be worn as it comes, or styled with heat. The perfectly natural looking lace-front creates a flawless beautiful look.

Flame (not pictured) is a  shoulder length bob with bangs. Can be worn straight or curled. Comfortable mono-top cap lets you part you hair anywhere you want with the illusion of natural hair growth.
